SJ39 is headed south.

Steven agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, the third day of his first offseason as an NFL free agent. He took to Twitter after signing to thank fans, the Falcons and the Rams.

Steven spent the last nine seasons with St. Louis Rams, amassing over 10,000 rushing yards (10,135) on 2.395 carries. He is the Rams’ all-time leading rusher and is the only active running back to run for over 1,000 yards in eight consecutive seasons.

In Atlanta, he will replace Michael Turner, joining quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White and tight end Tony Gonzalez in an offense that carried the Falcons to within a game of the Super Bowl last season. Reactions around the league have been overwhelmingly in favor of the move.

One of the best running backs in the history of the Falcons, a man who helped carry the Dirty Birds to Super Bowl XXXIII, Jamal Anderson, also chimed in, in support of the move.

And of course, Falcons fans were thrilled to add one of the NFL’s best running backs to their team and took to Twitter to share their excitement.
