One of the foremost veteran ambassadors for the National Football League, Steven Jackson has been nominated for the NFL's first ever Sportsmanship Award.
Each team nominated one of its players for the award, which will recognize annually NFL players who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field.
A release from the NFL that revealed all 32 nominees noted that the brand new award will be presented each year to the player "who best demonstrates the qualities of onfield sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition."
"I'm humbled that my organization acknowledges my daily approach to the game of football and my appreciation for it," Steven said.
A panel of four former players—Curtis Martin, Karl Mecklenburg, Leonard Wheeler, and former Falcon running back Warrick Dunn—from the NFL Legends Community will narrow down the field of 32 to just eight finalists, four from each conference.
From there, each team will come to a consensus vote and select one of the eight finalists as a part of the regular Pro Bowl ballot. Teams cannot vote for their own player.
The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors show Jan. 31 on NBC the night before Super Bowl XLIX. The recipient will also receive a $25,000 donation to a charity of his choice from the NFL Foundation.
