True fans of Steven Jackson know that when he scores a touchdown, he celebrates by "rolling the dice," a tribute to his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Now the city that never sleeps is repaying its native son.
On Wednesday, April 13, Saks Fifth Avenue will celebrate its annual Vegas Dozen 2011: The Men We Love and Why We Love Them. Twelve men from various backgrounds and professions who exemplify great personal and professional commitment to the community will be honored with the Vegas Dozen Award. The event, benefiting Nevada Cancer Institute, is in its eighth year.

This year’s honorees are Patrick Duffy, CEO, Diamond Resorts International; Chet Buchanan, host, The Morning Zoo, KLUC Radio; Steven Jackson, running back, St. Louis Rams; Myron Martin, president and CEO of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts; Neil Moffit, CEO, Angel Management Group; Jim Rogers, owner, KSNV-TV Channel 3; Carlos Santana, musician; Michael Shulman, philanthropist and blogger; Leonard Stone, attorney; Jerry Tarkanian, former UNLV Runnin’ Rebels coach; John Unwin, CEO, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas; and Dana White, president, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Mari Landers, vice president and general manager of Saks Fifth Avenue, says, “We are excited to celebrate this year’s Vegas Dozen. This charitable venture gives Saks an incredible opportunity to once more support our community by raising funds and awareness for such a wonderful organization as Nevada Cancer Institute, and to recognize just 12 of many men who have contributed to the Las Vegas community in such a meaningful way.”
The event will take place at 6 p.m. at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Fashion Show Mall. Ms. Mercedes Martinez of MIX 94.1’s Mark and Mercedes radio show will act as Mistress of Ceremonies at the event and present each honoree their award. Wild Truffles and Southern Wine & Spirits will be supplying the food and drinks for this special occasion.
The honorees’ wardrobe will be provided by Saks Fifth Avenue Las Vegas.
NVCI seeks to reduce the burden of cancer for Nevada, the nation and the world through innovative and collaborative research, education and patient care.
